It all started in 1990 as a desire to serve rural communities.

READI Medical is a division of READI Teams, a nonprofit organization created to provide health care training and community development to rural communities around the world.

READI Teams was based in Trujillo, Honduras from 1996 to 2000, where it worked in rural communities training local health are workers and overseeing community projects.

In 1998 when the second deadliest hurricane on Atlantic record tore through Honduras, READI Teams was a key part of the local relief effort. Hurricane Mitch took the lives of over 7,000 in Honduras alone.

Meet Shane

Shane Lovley, PAC

Affectionately called "Doc" by friends for decades, Shane Lovley is a family practice Physician Assistant in mid coast Maine. He's worked as a provider at Lifespan Family Healthcare for the past 15 years, but his experience in the medical field long precedes that.

In his youth Shane was fascinated by the woods. From building makeshift shelters to practicing primitive survival skills, he found his passion in being surrounded by nature. This desire to gain primitive skills and love for helping others led him into studying rural medicine.

Shane became a junior member of an ambulance service at age 16. At 18 he joined international nonprofit Youth With a Mission (YWAM) and devoted his life to volunteering around the world. In YWAM he specialized in rural community development, and helped bring clean water, sustainable agriculture, and basic medical skills to villages in Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Honduras, Albania and the Philippines. It was during this time Shane met his future wife Sandy, and together they created READI Teams.

Shane, Sandy, their daughter Jamie, and a team of volunteers lived in Honduras from 1996 to 2000. After moving back to the states Shane earned his Masters degree as a Physician Assistant from the University of New England in 2007.  He holds both state and national certification as a Physician Assistant. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of the Nations in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in tropical medicine & Community Development in 1991, and Texas Tech University school of Paramedicine in 1996.

Working in family medicine allows Shane to create relationships in his community in Maine, and being from Maine he has a love and respect for the great outdoors. While not working Shane is an avid outdoorsman and can be found hunting, fishing, farming, and building his camp "up north." His time spent in rural development and experience witnessing the devastation left by Hurricane Mitch inspired Shane's interest in self-sustained living and wilderness survival.

READI Medical was created by Shane and Sandy Lovley because they recognized a void that needed to be met in their community. In an unpredictable world and in the Maine woods a small amount of medical knowledge can go a long way. No one should feel helpless in the face of injury or natural disaster.
